Kuhn majors in public policy and communications. Mack Mariani, one of his politics professors, described Kuhn as "a great student and really enthusiastic about politics and learning." In one of Mariani's classes, they did a mock political debate in which Kuhn acted as one of the reporters covering the campaign.
His list of guests has grown. Kuhn has recently interviewed activist Cindy Sheehan, former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, Al Gore campaign attorney David Boies and Merrill Lynch Chief U.S. and Quantitative Strategist Richard Bernstein. Others include Mike Jerrick of Fox News, Tucker Carlson of MSNBC and Matt Davis, Pulitzer Prize winner for his political cartoons.
At 17, Kuhn became the chief political correspondent for WHHS News, a public access television show in Westchester County. Kuhn said in his senior year he was asked to join the TV show.
"I revamped the whole show and it was really fun," he said.
While still in high school, Kuhn got the chance to interview people such as former Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey, CNN's Jack Cafferty, CNN contributor and editor of Fortune Magazine Andy Serwer, and the Democratic county legislator for the 16th District of Yonkers, Andrea Stewart-Cousins. "But it was my half-hour sit down with Reverend Al Sharpton that really put us on the map," Kuhn said.
While simultaneously writing for his high school newspaper, Kuhn interviewed people such as Donald Trump and CNN Headline News correspondent Carrie Lee.
In order for him to reach out to more of his audience, Kuhn has created his own Web site, www.eric kuhn.com. Usually, Kuhn said, he likes to spend the first five minutes of an interview chatting with his guest and asking fun questions, finding that people will reveal more if they can talk on a more personable level. But he says he isn't afraid to ask tough questions.
On April 6, Kuhn interviewed Eliot Spitzer, state Attorney General and Democratic candidate for governor.
For his final show of the semester, Kuhn is interviewing Andrea Mitchell, chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News. The show will air from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
This summer, Kuhn has a three-month long internship as the NBC digital media intern working under Mark Lukasiewicz, vice president of NBC news.
